Photography has not only attained unprecedented prominence as an art form in the last half–century, it has become a resounding voice in the contemporary art dialogue of the last decade.

The Norton Museum’s exhibition and acquisition programs reflect this remarkable acceptance of the photographic medium with a collection that has grown to more than 2,200 photographs in the last decade. As a result, outstanding photography exhibitions of all genres—from the 19th century to the newest digital works—are available year-round.

Additions to the collection have come from generous donations and significant purchases of some of the greatest names in the history of photography including; Henri Cartier-Bresson, August Sander, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Walker Evans, Mary Ellen Mark, May Ray, Paul Strand and Manuel Alvarez Bravo.

Future gifts and purchases will focus on both figures of historical significance in the history of photography and contemporary artists producing photo-based artworks.
