A
Show of Hands: Photographs and Sculpture from the Buhl Collection
January 12 – March 25,
2008
Some of the greatest names in photography and contemporary art
are among the more than 100 artists represented in A Show of
Hands: Photographs and Sculpture from the Buhl Collection. In
addition to the photographs, Mr. Buhl has agreed for the first
time to include a small selection of sculptures from his collection
which also focuses on the human hand. A Show of Hands spans the
history of photography, including images produced in the practice
of science, journalism, and "art."
Organized by the Norton Museum of Art.
Local sponsorship of this exhibition is made possible in part
through the generosity of William and Sarah Ross Soter, the Photography
Committee of the Norton Museum of Art, the State of Florida,
Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida
Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
"The catalogue available for purchase in the museum's store,
Speaking with Hands, was published in conjunction with an exhibition
of photographs from the Buhl Collection organized by the Solomon
R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (where it was presented in 2004)
whose content differed significantly from that of the current
exhibition."
Media support provided by The Miami Herald / El Nuevo Herald.
