Continental Drift: Installations by Joan Jonas, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, Juan Muņoz, and Yinka Shonibare
10/23/2004 - 1/2/2005

Coinciding with North America's most important Contemporary Art fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, Continental Drift features installations by four leading international contemporary artists, Joan Jonas, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, Juan Muņoz and Yinka Shonibare. The exhibition is an exploration of the effect of global thinking — how it has imbued and entranced the art world, with artists transporting their life experiences across great distances. In this spirit, the exhibition has an international span as the featured artists are of four different nationalities: American, Russian, Spanish, and British respectively. These artists pursue varying approaches within the contemporary phenomenon of installation art; in this kind of art work, objects and their surrounding spaces are folded into one, creating open-ended modes of expression that surround the viewer and captivate the senses and mind. This group of artists continues to garner worldwide recognition; Shonibare has been short listed for the Turner prize 2004. Organized by the Norton Museum of Art.
