About the Artist:
Nodding to the great painters of the modern era including Picasso and Matisse, Danielle Orchard’s paintings echo in a conscious and direct way the master of young girls, the nude and suspended time. Omnipresent and displaced, timeless and abstract, Orchard's female figures often appear nude in the familiarity of everyday scenes. The artist plays with movement and form, to twist reality and distort context, in a multi-perspectival Analytic Cubist style, giving these daily activities an allegorical and sacred character. In narratives ranging from art historical tropes to contemporary leisure activities, the viewers can expect to find scenes of familiarity in Orchard’s work. As she tackles depiction plane by plane, each abstract part that she sculpts with thick impasto, Orchard explores the female corporeal representation. By using popular motifs, she eliminates the viewers’ guesswork in discerning the subject, directing their attention to her mode of expression instead.
