    Kemuel Roig, Piano

Born in Camaguey, Cuba, Kemuel Roig began studying music at the early age of four, when his first passion was to be a drummer. At eight, Kemuel became a student at the vocational art school, Nola Sahig, in Ciego de Avila, where he studied classical piano and drums simultaneously. In 2002 his family moved to the United States and relocated to Miami. During his high school years, Kemuel had the opportunity to study classical piano with Mrs. Martha Cortina. He then studied jazz performance at Miami Dade College with Dr. Michael Di Liddo and Michael Gerber.

While there, he joined the MDC Hard Bop Ensemble and they played at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. The next year, Kemuel won a DownBeat Magazine annual student competition under two categories: outstanding composition and piano solo. Throughout his life, Kemuel has performed in tours, produced, and participated in recordings with great figures of music.

Kemuel achieved his bachelor’s degree at Florida International University, where he studied classical piano with Kemal Gekic, and jazz with Dr. Michael Orta and Dr. Gary Campbell. In 2015 achieved a master’s degree from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami under the studies of Mr. Martin Bejerano and Dean Mr. Shelly Berg.
