Concert: The Angel and The Devil: Music of the French Baroque

Sunday, May 18 / 3PM-4:30PM

The season’s final concert celebrates the music of Marin Marais and Antoine Forqueray, composers known as masters of the viola da gamba. Mik Groninger performs on the ancient instrument which originated in 15th-century Spain and is of a distinctly different family than the violin, which originated in Italy. The viola da gamba was the favorite instrument of Kings Louis XIV and XV who gave royal patronage to Marais and Forqueray. Groninger is accompanied by Michael Leopold on the archlute.
