Curator Conversation / Cut Up/Cut Out: Photomontage and Collage

By cutting out, reshuffling, and layering multiple photographs, artists create composite artworks with diverse interpretative possibilities. Lauren Richman, Ph.D., William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography, discusses Cut Up/Cut Out: Photomontage and Collage, an exhibition which explores these photographic techniques, highlighting several new acquisitions, special loans, and contemporary examples from the Norton’s Collection, including works by Romare Bearden, Martha Rosler, Barbara Kruger, and more.
