Family Autism Art Workshop

Join us at the Norton Museum of Art on Sunday, February 9 for an accessible art workshop for the entire family! This program will feature interactive time in the gallery and art-making in the classroom, led by artist Manuela Gonzalez. All participating staff members are trained to lead programs for people with autism.

In this program, families will:

  • Take an interactive walk through the Collection.
  • Make art inspired by works from the Museum with arts educator, Manuela Gonzalez.
  • Explore sensory-friendly art materials.
  • Receive FREE admission to the Museum.
  • Access accommodations including a social narrative (Social Story™), headphones, fidgets, quiet areas, accessible art materials, and timers.

Grades K-6, 1 pm program:

Please book according to the grade of the student with autism. Siblings of any age are welcome to join.

Learn more about Manuela Gonzalez, art educator for the program!

Manuela Gonzalez is an artist and educator with a background in painting and textile work. She holds a BFA from RISD and an MFA in painting from the Yale University School of Art. 

Manuela has led accessibility programming in Spanish and English at several museums and art institutions since 2007 both in New York City and West Palm Beach. As a museum educator, she has worked with access, teen and school programs at El Museo del Barrio, The Whitney Museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, drawing from her personal studio experience to develop programming that connects the process, materials and history of the artworks she references in a way that is inclusive and multimodal.
