Family Autism Art Workshop
Join us for an art class for the whole family! The program includes interactive time in the galleries, an art workshop, free admission to the Museum, and autism supports.
This program will feature a fun art workshop, including a family printmaking activity in the art classroom, inspired by works from the tour, led by artist Manuela Gonzalez.
In this program, families will:
⦁ Make colorful prints with arts educator Manuela Gonzalez.
⦁ Tour the Norton's Collection.
⦁ Explore sensory-friendly art materials.
⦁ Receive FREE admission to the Museum.
⦁ Receive accommodations including a social narrative (Social Story™), headphones, fidgets, quiet areas, accessible art materials, and timers.
All participating staff members are trained to lead programs for people with autism.
Program times:
K – 6th grades and their families: 1 - 2 pm.
7th-12th grades and their families: 3 - 4 pm.
Please book by the grade of the student with autism. Siblings of any age are welcome to join.
Learn more about Manuela Gonzalez, art educator for the program!
Manuela Gonzalez is an artist and educator with a background in painting and textiles. She holds a BFA from RISD and an MFA in painting from the Yale University School of Art. Manuela has led accessibility programming in Spanish and English at several museums and art institutions since 2007 in New York City and West Palm Beach. As a museum educator, she has worked with access and teen and school programs at El Museo del Barrio, The Whitney Museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, drawing from her personal studio experience to develop programming that connects the process, materials, and history of the artworks she references in a way that is inclusive and multimodal.
