Juneteenth Community Day

Bring family and friends to the Juneteenth Community Day and commemorate the day the announcement of the abolition of slavery was made in Texas in 1865.

This intergenerational event celebrates freedom and spotlights the African American experience with live musical performances, dance, gallery talks on art by African American artists, storytelling, and art-making activities.

The programming for this event was organized by the Norton Museum of Art in conjunction with the Juneteenth Advisory Group including Julian Crewe, Samantha Cyprian, Adrienne Chadwick, Maria DeJesus, Kianga Jinaki, and Cleeve Maloon.

This is a FREE event.

Parking in the Norton Museum Visitor lot will be free during the day. There are a limited number of spots so please, carpool or use public transportation if you are able to. Free overflow parking will be permitted for the day at Palm Beach Atlantic University in the Intermural Lot, Q lot and ACA Lot ONLY.

  • Music / Ebony Gospel Choir

    The Ebony Chorale represents singers, most of whom are not professional musicians by vocation, who dedicate their time to striving for excellence in the performance of choral music. Each week they give of themselves to be the best vocal musicians possible. Vacations and schedules are arranged to meet the demands of rehearsals and performances. They sing for the joy and the love of music. 

    Founded and directed by Dr. Orville T. Lawton.

    Join Terese “Chunky” Hill, Zionna Walker, Jorey, Cross, and Brandon Areizaga for poetry.

    Terese “Chunky” Hill is acknowledged as one of the prolific voices of our time. This Nationally known spoken word artist has the ability to hold and comfort her audience by delivering heart felt passion through words, provoking the listener to feel inspired and uplifted. Using the gift of speech to draw a vivid picture of culture and diversity that is touchable reality. Terese is a public servant. Severing as a Law enforcement officer for over ten years she has combined poetry and the law into a prophetic mixture. She has captured the ability to voice personal life experience, societal blues, sexuality, and world issues into a soulful gospel of good news, by using the universal language of poetry.

    Enjoy dance performances with Soul Stage Dance Ensemble as well as pieces choreographed by Brenan Gonzalez, Branndi Lewis, and Jorden Amari.

    Soul Stage Dance Ensemble is the performance group for Soul Movement.  Soul Movement was founded by Samantha Cyprian to provide dance instruction for Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Tap to dances in Palm Beach County, but specifically those from underserved and underrepresented communities.
