Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker

Timothy James StandringCurator Emeritus, Denver Art Museum

Saturday, April 16 / 2PM / Stiller Auditorium

In this lecture, Timothy James Standring, Curator Emeritus, Denver Art Museum, introduces Rembrandt van Rijn— the artist who defined the Dutch Golden Age. Highly sought after as a portrait artist and his depictions of biblical and mythological scenes alike, he was also an avid printmaker.

Rembrandt’s prints, although widely sought after by print collectors throughout Europe, did not receive the critical attention that his paintings produced. He trained many students in painting, but not in printmaking, which he created in relative solitude, away from the noise and drama of his personal and professional life as a painter.
