Special Performance / Jewish Voices

Tuesday, March 29, 2022 / 7:00 PM
Norton Museum of Art, Great Hall

Cost: $40 / Members $30

Acclaimed violinist Arnaud Sussmann graces stages around the globe as a soloist and chamber musician and has built a stellar reputation locally as Artistic Director for the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach. Drawing inspiration from his own grandfather’s survival of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Arnaud Sussmann and pianist Michael Brown will perform works by Jewish composers whose lives were directly impacted by the war, including Robert Dauber, Samuel Adler, Erwin Schulhoff, and Mieczysław Weinberg.

Presented in partnership with the Chamber of Music Society of Palm Beach.

This program is made possible with support from the Gayle and Paul Gross Education Endowment Fund.

Mr. Sussmann writes about the program:

“This program grew from my desire to learn and perform works by composers whose lives and careers were cut short during World War II.

Three composers on this program were directly affected by the Holocaust - Erwin Schulhoff, Robert Dauber, and Pavel Haas all perished in concentration camps, and Mieczylaw Weinberg's entire family was murdered by the Nazis after the invasion of Poland. My own grandfather, Jacques Sussmann, survived the camps but lost many family members there. As a musician, I thought that there was no better way to honor their memories than by promoting and performing works by composers who were silenced during the war."

About Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach

Led by Artistic Director Arnaud Sussmann, the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach has been bringing world class chamber music performances and educational programming to Palm Beach County and the wider south Florida region for nearly a decade. Founded in 2012 by arts leader, chamber music lover, and violinist Vicki Kellogg, CMSPB was created with a vision to make world class chamber music available in the area and build a community of enthusiasts with a shared love of the art form.

Over its first eight seasons The Chamber Music Society if Palm Beach has presented over 100 artists including the Emerson, Ehnes, and Harlem string quartets, Inon Barnatan, Milos Karadaglic, and members of the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Philadelphia Orchestra, among many others. In 2019 CMSPB introduced frequent guest artist and acclaimed violinist Arnaud Sussmann as Artistic Director, an appointment that would prove timely as Sussmann would lead a transition to digital programming, keeping audiences engaged when in-person performances could not be possible, and opening access to viewers around the globe.

With support from the Goldner Educational Initiative Fund, the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach frequently partners with area schools including the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, U. B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts, the Conservatory School and Bak Middle School of the Arts to provide access to high quality coaching and performances by CMSPB artists.
